Musical Youth!

Musical Youth!

We aren’t ones to blow our own trumpet (see what we did?) but Brighton Youth Orchestra (BYO) have given us a brilliant review on Trip Advisor.

BYO is the flagship youth orchestra acting as “Young Persons Ambassadors” for the City of Brighton & Hove. The orchestra performs major symphonic repertoire, some of which has been premiered by the orchestra such as Sir John Tavener’s ‘Exstasis’.  The orchestra also takes part in exciting collaborations with choirs, dance, drama groups and even graffiti artists.

Brighton Youth Orchestra was founded in the late 1940’s and became the first youth orchestra in Great Britain to be directly supported by the local council. For many years the orchestra has been based at the University of Brighton with whom we maintain strong links.

In recent years BYO has performed with Nicola Benedetti, Evelyn Glennie, John Tomlinson, Richard Durrant, Joanna McGregor and Laura van der Heijden and concerts have taken place in such venues as the Dome concert hall in Brighton to Hong Kong and Berlin

“We were a group of 16 young people and adults staying in the Isle of Wight for a three day music course. East Dene was the perfect place for us as the musicians had the beautiful wood panelled room to practice in with views down over the sea and we had the well equipped kitchen at our disposal to provide the catering. The students could walk down to the beach or off up onto the beautiful cliffs in 5 mins so there was always plenty to do.The staff went out of their way to be helpful and we are extremely grateful to them for making our stay in Bonchurch so memorable. Thanks so much and see you next year !”
